Bay Vista

Set high in the East Bay hills, this residence is defined by a seamless connection between architecture, landscape, and view. The infinity-edge pool with a tiled spillover wall serves as the focal point of the design — capturing sky and horizon while framing sweeping vistas of the San Francisco Bay. More than a backdrop, the pool acts as a bridge between the two main levels of the exterior space, creating a continuous flow between built form and landscape.

The garden takes its cues from the site’s geology. Existing boulders were reimagined as structural anchors, guiding the creation of a rock garden that feels both organic and deliberate. Plantings emerge from stone crevices in layered compositions, providing year-round color, texture, and ecological vibrancy. Pathways connect the more formal spaces adjacent to the house, the exuberant play spaces at the pool and lawn levels, and the edible garden below into a cohesive experience — inviting exploration while guiding visitors toward spaces for gathering and reflection.

At the fire patio, the design culminates in an outdoor living space where water, stone, and flame intersect. Here, the landscape creates both drama and intimacy: a place for social connection as well as quiet retreat, all held within the larger theater of the Bay views. This project embodies our approach — crafting landscapes that are deeply rooted in their sites, contemporary in form, and designed to enrich the way people live outdoors.
