Creekside Gathering
This site abuts a creek, which burbles along one side of the property. Its water nourishes the deep wooded riparian environment along its banks and creates the backdrop for this backyard.
We replaced an existing pool and hardscape with a new layout that lends to a more contemporary vocabulary, which juxtaposes against the mature and unmanicured canopy that envelops the site. Meandering paths bring you close to the canopy as you are embraced by the cool shade of the trees- while the new grilling station and dining areas allow you to enjoy the view beyond.
The bright and variegated foliage of the plant palette contrasts against the dark verdant conditions, and the lighter materials choices also help the hardscape features pop in the foreground. The water feature spilling out of the pool wall adds to the feeling of a creekside gathering as it mimics the sound of the creek even in dry season.
Overall, the design updated the rear yard to a more functional and modern layout, while maintaining the character and majesty of the existing site.
