NEO-TRADITIONAL COTTAGE
Inspired by the style of this Neo-Traditional cottage, DTLA adopted the architectural lines of the house and drew it out into the site so the home would embrace the landscape. Elements of formality, textures of green, and hardscape as structural elements frame the landscape’s more whimsical elements. A row of white trellis structures along the pool act as an extension of the master bedroom wing while another white trellis borders the outdoor lounge and dining area.
The planting design draws upon the idea of an English cottage garden, rendered in a cool palette of white, pink, purple, and green. We emphasized these crisp, fresh colors to draw out the different textures of the plants. This characteristic formality is broken up by touches of whimsy such as a spiral topiary boxwood and bright dashes of colorful flowers.
