FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 2, 2015 – HARRISBURG, PA – The Association of Landscape Designers (APLD) announced the winners of its 2015 International Landscape Design competition and honored David Thorne Landscape Architect, Inc. (DTLA) with a Gold Award for a residential project entitled ‘The Reclamation of Native Oak Ridge.’ The project was chosen along with six other Gold Award winners from a large and diverse pool of participants. Each winner was selected from distinct categories such as residential design, non-residential design, small projects, planting design, and more.
“The Reclamation of Native Oak Ridge” exhibited numerous sustainable landscape practices. The APLD jury was notably impressed with the execution of a respectful and sensitive design as well as the marriage of plantmanship, design, and architecture.
The project featured stormwater-filtering bioswales, strategically placed rockeries, California native and drought-tolerant plants, and the reclamation of several oak trees found in a deteriorative state by the home owners. The Reclamation of Native Oak Ridge, also known as Hill Top Gem, can be viewed online at thornela.com or on APLD’s website, apld.org.
“This is a wonderful milestone,” remarked David Thorne, Principal at David Thorne Landscape Architect, Inc. “We strive for great work for all our clients and projects, and to receive this acclaim is truly special for all at DTLA. Our office is honored and excited to receive a Gold Award from the APLD.”
APLD’s annual International Landscape Design Awards program began in 2002, and the competition is open to landscape designers and architects all over the world. Entries are judged by a distinguished panel of landscape design industry experts upon a variety of criteria. This year’s panel included John Greenlee, Greg Pierceall, and Julie Moir Messervy.
All winners, including David Thorne Landscape Architect, Inc., will be recognized at the APLD International Landscape Design Conference, October 8-11, 2015, in Washington, D.C.
